Some 97 per cent of all construction sites around England and Wales have now resumed operations, according to Build UK contract members, as the country starts to lift lockdown restrictions and more businesses and offices are reopening for business once again.
Reported on by PBC Today, the Build UK stats show that output is also now on the rise once more – 85 per cent for infrastructure sites and 78 per cent for construction, up from 85 and 74 per cent respectively.
In Scotland, meanwhile, 21 per cent of projects are currently up and running, with output at 27 per cent. The Scottish government is now in Phase 1 of its route map through the crisis, with Phase 2 when work will start to be carried out once again, with social distancing measures in place.
Guidance has now been published by the Building Engineering Services Association to help building owners, landlords and tenants reactivate buildings in order to bring them back into use safely.
Those in construction working away from home and in need of accommodation may well find Build UK’s Open Doors site of particular use, with more than 37,000 beds available across the UK and Ireland.
The organisation is also backing a new campaign – Reskilling the Recovery – which is being led by the London Progression Collaboration. The aim is to help big employers in the capital support small construction companies and the supply chain by pledging unspent apprenticeship levy to the fund. Thus far, over £600,000 of unused funding has been raised.
